Your story matters.
We were in Senior Secondary Class 1 at Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha, when the rumour spread like wildfire that it's hard to obtain a University education in Nigeria because of JAMB. I knew I will always score above average due to my past academic records but the rumour peddlers made it more difficult by stating that even right academic standing can't even save you if you lacked requisite connections. Examples of a few smart & intelligent ex students of DMGS, Onitsha, were cited as part of those still struggling to obtain admissions in their preferred Universities of choice & programs. Then, fear gripped me as I believed I had very slim chances of obtaining a university education due to JAMB difficulties & lack of connections. In the midst of my fear and panic, I had a dream. In the dream, I saw myself in what appears to be like a lecture theater but was surrounded by few ladies wearing what I know later as "hijab". When I woke up, I realized that this could be a University located in the Northern part of Nigeria. Engr. Chidi Okekeozor
I never knew what I stood to gain in life when destiny made it that I should be admitted into the Dennis Memorial Grammar School Onitsha. All I knew then was that my two senior cousins were students of the school. The first prize-giving day ceremony I witnessed was indeed a memorable one. What caught my attention mostly was when the profile of the lecturer for the day was being read: Prof Animalu a Professor of Physics whose profile took almost 30 minutes to complete (no exaggeration at all). And suddenly he appeared, so simple, soft spoken and very unassuming. When he took over the microphone and mounted the soapbox something told me I was in the right place.
After the prize-giving day (although I did not win any prize) I went back to the hostel with my shoulders high...my Principal Sir V.U Obidike made it clear to us that we were in the best of places, which he called DENGRAM VARSITY. Subsequent prize-giving days were something we eagerly waited for. When I and the management staff of the school picked Saturday the 15th day of July 2017 as the prize-giving day, we wanted a very low-key event, without grandeur. Little did we know that history would be made.
Rev Canon Chigozie Anieto,
I attended Dennis Memorial Grammar School, DMGS Onitsha, for my secondary school education. During my time in DMGS, I didn't know much about Archdeacon Thomas Dennis, the man whom the school was named after. I wasn’t the least interested in his life story or why our school was named after him. In 2017, Seventeen years after I graduated from DMGS, I and my missionary team, Rebuilding Lives Mission, came to Egbu Owerri. One Sunday morning, while at Egbu Owerri, I and my team visited the All Saints Cathedral Egbu, a well known Anglican Church in the area, for Sunday service. As they sang the hymn “Open The Door For The Guest To Come In”, the presence of God fell over me and I found myself in tears. My body began to shake and I could feel the physical presence of The Lord. Then I heard a voice say to me, are you willing to end this journey at the feet of Christ like Archdeacon Thomas Dennis?

Our Stories
The day we married is one of the best days of my life. It was beyond wearing a beautiful wedding dress, I was getting married to my best friend for life. Orgu Lynda, Esq
Remembering my DMGS days, those days in the Assembly Ground, with my then amiable principal, Ven. T. U. Mbanugo of blessed memory, feeding us with so many ancient history of DMGS.
I had just settled into JSS 1D and was getting used to the school environment. There were some "no go" areas. You should not be caught during school hours around such places. They included dinning hall, teachers' quarters, principal's lodges and etc.
