I was enrolled into the prestigious Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS), Onitsha in 2002. I was small, a shy type, gentle and dark complexioned. I started from JSS 1 so I would say I am a true son of DMGS (telimacus). LIFE IN DMGS
I'm so proud of my alma mata because apart from imparting knowledge, I learnt music, how to speak French to the extent of representing the school in French drama competitions. Traveling far for the French drama was part of my best adventures I will never forget during my school days at DMGS. MY PRINCIPAL VEN MBANUGO (Late)
I can't finish this without writing about this great man of God, a genius, a great scientist and a chemist per excellence. We always awaited him whenever he mounted the podium during early assembly. The teachers too hungerd for Ven Mbanugo to hear him speak. I could remember the day he came and told us about the Mango tree at the back of the assembly ground with pure green leaves. he gave us date and time that the leaves would all turn yellow and none would fall on the ground. We were all amazed thinking was a prophecy. he said it was not a prophecy but a scientific reaction. On that day, the students all gathered including the teachers. The school was filled with people because even outsiders heard about the "magic". lo and behold, it was just as he said. When he died, the amiable wife was speaking with some press men she said "I am not only mourning for his death but he could not finish a research he was conducting on a water sachet nylon". A research on a nylon...wow!!! MY EXPERIENCES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
I had quite a lot of experiences. I may not have time to list them all. I was a super shy type that could barely stand to address a group of two let alone, a crowd. When I was in SS2, a senior walked up to me and said "I like your person. you're always neat and gentle. I will like to introduce you to my club, Debating and Dramatic Society". He said they are looking for a leader. it was DMGS turn, as at the time, to produce a general president and it's the first of it's kind. I said ok but asked how it was going to be possible since I was not a member. Even if I joined then, there were still a lot who had joined right from their JSS days and I felt it was going to be hard for them to accept me"? The senior said, "when they see you, they won't have any choice than to accept you ". To cut the whole story short, I followed him to the club's general meeting at QRC Onitsha where he introduced me to the then president general from CKC Onitsha. The president loved my person and quickly adopted and supported my candidacy . I started campaigning in schools for vote with the help of some of my friends then in DMGS. I tried making a lot of female friends because they will campaign for you when you never even asked them to do so. I became so popular. Each school I entered, they'd scream and shout that I was the one they wanted. On the day of election a lot of Dengram guys that came out for the post withdrew allowing one guy to challenge me. As luck may have it, I became victorious. It was one of the happiest moments in my life being the President General of Debating and Dramatic Society (DDS) in the whole of Onitsha. That was how I started answering "Presidio" .
